Labor Day Weekend always feels like the last taste of summer. It's a long weekend, which means if you are anything like me, you want to have a plan for how you are going to make the most of your time off. Being just TWO HOURS away from Atlanta, Knoxville, and Birmingham, Walker County is the perfect short drive away. Not only that, but Walker County has some pretty iconic events that happen every year. Check out our guide to having the ultimate Georgia Mountain West moments.
What to do in Walker County - Day 1 (Saturday, September 5)
Dreaming of days when your biggest worries were which cereal you would eat during your favorite Saturday morning program? Yeah, us too. Lake Winnie Amusement Park is the perfect place to take your family and be reminded why we all loved going to amusement parks when we were younger. Lake Winnie has rides for everyone in your family and home to the world's oldest operating boat chute ride. The best part: when you are done exploring the classic rides, you have access to the water park. It's a local favorite and will seriously make your family smile.
Lake Winnie also features a Water Park, which is included in ticket prices. So pack a swimsuit, towel, and change of clothes
Tickets can be bought in advance for a discount online (the prices vary daily depending on demand)

The Kensington Rodeo happens every Saturday and Sunday during Labor Day weekend and is the ultimate Georgia Mountain West experience. Ripe with opportunities to make memories, here are some things to note about this iconic event:
Tickets are sold at the gate - cash, card, & tap-to-pay are ALL accepted
Adult tickets cost $20
Kids 11 and under tickets cost $5
Gates open at 5 pm, and you want to get there early to get good seats!
There are vendors, food trucks, games, and magic to explore
The rodeo officially starts at 8 pm

What to do in Walker County - Day 2 (Sunday, September 6)
Open the first and last weekend of each month, Lula Lake Land Trust has one of the most iconic waterfalls in Georgia. If it's your first time in Walker County, you are in for a treat, as it's an open-gate weekend. Passes (which cover 1 car) MUST be purchased online!
Things to note:
ONLY open on the first and last weekends
Open-gate passes must be purchased online
Passes cost around $19 and cover one standard car
Interested in a guided hike? You can also purchase these online; one guided hike ticket also covers 1 person's entrance to Lula Lake
Guided tour tickets are $40
Think nature - which means bug spray, long pants (LAYERS!), closed-toed shoes, snacks, and water are all smart to pack in your day pack.
Enjoy exploring on two wheels? Lula Lake offers incredible (and diverse) mountain bike trails.
Looking for food suggestions? We suggest packing a lunch and snacks. Just remember to leave no trace and pack up all trash!
As the ultimate Americana experience, a Labor Day trip to Walker County wouldn't be complete without seeing Rock City. Located atop Lookout Mountain, Rock City creates a whimsical experience that will cast a spell on all ages. We suggest arriving around dusk so you can experience both the day and nighttime magic of Rock City's trails. Tickets can often be purchased online for a discount (especially in advance).
